The San Diego Job Corps Center Installs EverLast® Induction Lights for Energy Conservation

Jackson, MI– February 9, 2010 – Job Corps is a national residential training and employment program designed to address the multiple barriers to employment faced by "at promise" youth (ages 16-24) throughout the United States. Job Corps is committed to incorporating "green" practices throughout its 122 centers. As part of a pilot project, Carl Williams, Facility Manager of the San Diego Job Corps Center (SDJCC), worked with John Quart at Quallight Efficiency Corp. to replace inefficient 250w metal halide fixtures with EverLast® 100w Induction Flood Light fixtures.

Job Corps has been granted funds from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) of 2009. The principal portions of these funds are being spent on Construction/Rehabilitation and Renewable Energy Projects on Job Corps Centers throughout the country. Part of the money is being spent to jump-start efforts to prepare Job Corps graduates for employment in the green economy and make centers more environmentally friendly.

"Making the switch to energy-efficient EverLast induction fixtures was kind of a no-brainer," Williams said. "In addition to cutting our energy costs by more than 50%, the bulbs will last 100,000 hours, which will also reduce our annual maintenance costs significantly."

In addition to training, Job Corps students receive housing, meals, basic health care, and a living allowance twice a month. EverLast® 100w Induction Flood Lights were installed outside the dormitories and recreation building, resulting in enhanced safety at night for those walking and driving on Center. "Our students and staff are very pleased with the increased light distribution," said Williams. "We are in the process of reviewing other EverLast Induction fixtures to improve the lighting on our Center."

With a color temperature of 5000K and a high color rendering index (CRI), EverLast® Induction Flood Lights produce a high-definition light that provides enhanced security by defining objects and colors better than other lighting technologies. For additional energy savings, a step-dimming ballast that reduces the light output to 50 percent when the area is vacant and increases the light output to 100 percent when motion is detected is also available.
