NEWS RELEASE Fort Drum Latest Military Base Using Efficient Lighting To Address Growing Energy Concern Base Selects EverLast® Induction Street and Area Lighting To Reduce Costs Jackson, MI– November 12, 2012 –"Lighting efficiency improvements present a clear opportunity to decrease energy consumption, which is a priority for the U.S. Army, the Department of Defense and for the entire federal government,” said Katherine Hammack, Assistant Secretary of the Army for Installations and Environment. The U.S. Military is the single largest consumer of energy in the world and Fort Drum is certainly no exception. When it came time to implement a high-efficiency street lighting initiative, officials at the base selected EverLast® street and area induction lights. "When I began working with the base as an energy consultant, they were already aware that replacing their inefficient lighting was one of the fastest ways to reduce energy consumption and maintenance costs. They originally considered LED technology as well, but after looking at tangibles such as ROI, performance and sustainability, the induction products manufactured by EverLast Lighting quickly became the obvious solution,” commented Stuart Kirscht, Vice President of Retro-Tech Systems, Inc. Early this year Fort Drum installed over 1,100 EverLast® U.S. Bi-Level Cobra Head and Shoe Box Fixtures. The fixtures replaced an array of existing lights base wide including metal halide, mercury vapor, and high pressure sodium. According to sources involved with the project the fixtures were the solution of choice because of their 100,000 hour lamp life and high efficiency, making it a very cost effective lighting solution. "EverLast was able to deliver an induction lighting solution that met or exceeded the strict military lighting level requirements," commented Alex Orr, EverLast® Regional Sales Manager. "We were able to increase lighting levels and furthermore, the base security tied to the 5000K lamp color and high CRI. Fort Drum Military Base was pleased with the increased visibility and energy savings provided by the U.S Bi-Level Cobra Head and Shoe Box fixtures."

"EverLast® has designed enhanced features into its U.S. Bi-Level Cobra Head fixture which exceeded the government requirements tied to ARRA funding programs delivering a product which is Made in the U.S. Because EverLast® was proactive in the development of several features in the parking lot lighting solution; that eliminated tons of service related challenges. A conservative estimate places the energy savings in excess of $250,000. The ROI for EverLast® is monumental compared to other lighting solutions,” stated Ryan Miller, Representative of Atlantech, Inc. Fort Drum is one of the largest military bases in the world occupying over 108,000 acres of land and supporting the assembly of almost 80,000 troops annually. The facility has a U.S. history dating back to 1908 and claims home to some of the most famous military units. |
